Leather is a natural material. With the right design, materials of the highest quality and little maintenance, you get a product that lasts a very long time and is patinated with dignity.
General advice
1. Exposure in direct sunlight can fade dark colors and make light colors darker.
2. Hot, dry air can dry out the leather if it is not impregnated regularly.
3. Some detergents and chemicals can discolor and damage the surface of the leather.
4. If you use too much water on the leather, it changes color.
Impregnation
Be extra careful with brown and natural-colored leather products that can darken considerably when in contact with water. We recommend that you use a damp and properly squeezed cloth when cleaning the leather.
After you have dried the leather product, it is important that the leather dries properly before applying any form of impregnation. There are many different types of impregnation and horse shops that usually have most products for leather care can help you recommend the type of impregnation you should use to preserve the color and softness of the leather.
Leather from Tärnsjö Tannery
The art of tanning leather vegetatively is a thousand years old. Since 1873, Tärnsjö Tannery has used these well-proven methods. Industrialization has enabled tanneries to offer skins at lower prices and many tanneries have chosen that path. Tärnsjö Tannery does not have. Why?
Because the aesthetics of vegetable tanned leather are unparalleled and the patina that is seen when the leather is used for a long time can not be produced in any other way. It is also the only way to produce leather of the best quality and at the same time protect our environment.
Our ancestors in the tanneries used tannic acids made from oak bark. Tärnsjö Tannery produces tannic acids in the same way because it gives the best results. Producing leather in a way that is safe for the environment is more time consuming than normal tanning. But what makes the tanning process take longer when the purpose is the best possible quality? Tärnsjö Tannery produces unique leather.
Tärnsjö Tannery's leather is completely free of chrome and our vegetable tanned leather is made from the finest hides. For thousands of years, humans have been tanning leather with tannic acid from vegetable sources such as oak and mimosa bark. The tannery still uses these environmentally sustainable methods today to ensure that our leather has a natural surface that ages beautifully with a patina that develops over time.
