Meet our new CEO – Pontus Eklind

In the transition between change and tradition, Beslag Design proudly introduces their new CEO, Pontus Eklind. With a solid background from Tapwell and a clear vision for the future, he is now prepared to lead Beslag Design forward. We sat down with him to discuss his journey, ambitions, and his outlook on the upcoming chapters of Beslag Design.

Hello Pontus, welcome to Beslag Design. Can you briefly tell us about yourself?

Hello! I live in Lund with my wife and our two children, ages 7 and 12. I was born and raised in Jönköping where I have two adult children aged 25 and 27. The latest addition to the family is little Bonnie, who my daughter gave birth to in December 2022. I'm an active person who enjoys traveling, exercising, and spending time with family. I love travel experiences, having visited places ranging from the endless plains of the Serengeti with lions and giraffes, to the rich inland of Bali with its dances and culture. I’ve surfed in Costa Rica, but I also love big cities, having wandered through places like Rome, Sydney, and Hong Kong. I love meeting new people and discovering new places and exciting environments. I see traveling as continuous learning.

You previously held a position as CEO at Tapwell. How do you think that experience will influence your leadership here at Beslag Design?
Tapwell is also a very successful company. During my time there, we focused a lot on strengthening collaborations both internally and externally. I contributed to building a team with a strong bond and a winning mentality, where we worked side by side. We designed beautiful products for kitchens and bathrooms, but we also created clear business and sales strategies that were very successful. This significant growth journey, I believe, has enhanced my leadership qualities, which are based on commitment, clarity, respect, and collective effort.

How do you view Beslag Design's current position in the industry, and what are your main visions for the company in the upcoming years?
Beslag Design holds a leading position in fittings and interior products in Sweden. They've managed to establish strong long-term relationships with both customers and suppliers. Additionally, they've been successful in product range selection and have been ahead of the curve in terms of interior trends and surface finishes. I believe we have tremendous opportunities to create more comprehensive product ranges, which will offer our customers even more harmonious homes and other environments. This also gives us more room in every customer's business, providing ample opportunities for robust financial growth. I also see significant potential in expanding geographically. In our increasingly globalized world, there are opportunities to supply other countries with our high-quality products.

What do you see as the biggest challenges for Beslag Design moving forward, and how do you plan to address them?
Thanks to the company's long history and long-term owners, I am very optimistic about the future. However, the global situation creates challenges across many industries. As long as we produce beautiful products that people are proud to have in their homes, there are endless opportunities for continued growth. We will carefully analyze any economic fluctuations that might arise, but we will promptly intensify our efforts to find new business opportunities both in Sweden and abroad. We'll also review our product range and identify new product groups to expand our business.

How would you describe your leadership philosophy, and what type of corporate culture are you aiming to establish?
My philosophy is that you get better at what you practice. I've been working in the bathroom, house, and kitchen industry since 1993. It's an industry that has changed a lot and has become increasingly exciting and interesting, especially from a customer perspective. Without customers, we have no reason to exist. So, my basic philosophy is about finding the "Why" and then creating a strong sense of belonging where every employee understands the importance of what we do every day for the people who will use our beautifully refined products. For me, teamwork and loyalty are essential, so my leadership is about collaboration and loyalty to each other. Clarity and humility are other clear philosophies I work with. I want to create an environment where everyone wants to win, feels heard, and isn't lost in hierarchical organization structures. Everyone should want to work hard but have fun along the way. The culture should be built on a winning team spirit and enthusiasm.

In summary, my principles are based on team loyalty, joy, commitment, and forward-thinking.

As you step into the role of CEO for Beslag Design, is there a personal goal or ambition you'd like to share with us?
I view life as continuous learning, so I truly look forward to working with the owners, the board, and all the employees. Getting to know everyone and getting us as a team to reach our high and challenging goals will be my ambition. The ambition to set high goals, achieve them, and see people grow and love their job is hard to define, but you usually feel when it happens. That's where we're headed.
