Who are you, and how did your journey into interior design begin?

When I started Hemtrender almost 20 years ago, it was a blog where I mainly wrote about beautiful homes and trends. Over the years, my interest has developed into my profession, and my focus has shifted from the more superficial side of trends and product news to something deeper with every year that passes.

Perhaps it has something to do with getting older, or simply evolving, but for me, interior design today isn’t about choosing between a pink or blue cushion. It’s about the home – the most important place in our lives and in our children’s upbringing – what we do with it, and the choices we make to feel as good as possible there. The choices we make for our homes have a significant impact on how we feel, and that’s where I feel I’ve found my calling.

What inspires you most right now?

September and late summer are my favourite time of year. I absolutely love nature when the tones become darker and warmer, and there are few things that inspire me more. The sea, the forest, or simply a fern picked outside and placed in a vase.

What does Beslag Design mean to you?

An important part of working as an interior designer is creating a sense of cohesion. When I design or style a home, it’s important that every element works together – and the details are what complete the picture. If the details aren’t right, the whole space falls short. It’s as simple as that.

That’s why I was especially excited when Beslag Design suggested a collaboration. They are experts in the details that shape kitchens and bathrooms. Through our collaboration, I’ll be sharing my knowledge to help more people feel confident in the choices they make.

What should you consider when choosing hardware?

It’s about creating a sense of cohesion throughout the home or project. You might choose a colour, finish or metal that runs consistently through the space, or deliberately mix different ones. What matters is that your choices work with the interior style and atmosphere you want to create.

Your home may also have an architectural character that you want to respect. And, of course, your choices need to work from both a practical and budget perspective. I hope to explore this question further together with Beslag Design in the future.

How do you help clients find their own style?

In my projects, I work together with the client on a needs analysis involving many different questions and steps. It’s a process where we gradually find our way towards what works best for them.

Alongside my interior design projects, I have also created a programme called Hitta Hem Hemma, where you work through your own needs analysis, create moodboards and make choices for your home step by step – either with my digital guidance along the way or entirely on your own.

What advice would you give someone who wants to create a home they truly enjoy living in?

Do the groundwork. It’s great fun to look for inspiration on social media and save images on Pinterest, but you also need to start with your own home and your own circumstances.

What is your budget? What are the conditions you’re working with? What is the character of the house? And there is much more to consider. It takes some preparation and time to arrive at choices that truly feel right.

What is at the top of your own wish list right now?

Oh! It’s been a long time since anyone asked me that. When it comes to interiors, it would have to be a new rug for the living room. Sometimes you get things wrong, even when you work with interior design. I chose a rug that was a little too focused on aesthetics and not quite practical enough, so now I need to find another one. I’m considering a checked rug this time!
